About

Originally from Leavenworth, Kansas, Hannah Overbey currently resides in Fargo, North Dakota. Since her graduation from North Dakota State University, she has established herself as an emerging professional in the Fargo-Moorhead area, performing regularly in the local opera chorus as well as maintaining a thriving studio of singers of all ages and abilities. She has recently diversified her resume with her participation in local musical theater productions.

With her bright, flexible soubrettte voice and energetic, comedic stage presence, Hannah Overbey is equally comfortable singing Baroque opera as she is contemporary art song and musical theater. Operatic roles include, Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), Despina (Cosi fan Tutte), Adele (Die Fledermaus), and Lucy (The Telephone). Last season, Hannah added an “over-the-top hilarious” (Opera Canada) Arsamenes from Serse to her arsenal of operatic roles at the Halifax Summer Opera Festival. Most recently, she was featured as Fruma Sarah in Act Up Theatre’s Fiddler on the Roof.

Overbey is an active teacher of singing, maintaining a local studio of 20 students, ranging in age from 7-adult, and is Adjunct Professor of Applied Voice at Southwest Minnesota State University. Overbey also works as a music director for Gooseberry Park Players, a summer theatre program for grades 6-12. As both a performer and a teacher of singing, Overbey is passionate about passing down the tradition of operatic and classical singing to future artists and audiences. Her goal as a performer is to make productions comfortable, engaging, and relevant to the 21st century. In line with this mission, Hannah is also enrolled in courses focusing on Intimacy Direction, funded in part by the North Dakota Council of Arts Professional Development Grant.

Hannah Overbey holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Pittsburg State University (KS) where she studied with Stella Hastings and Susan Marchant, and a Master of Music: Vocal Performance from North Dakota State University (ND) where she studied with Kelly Burns and Karisa Templeton.
